Tate Britain announces Van Dyck exhibition
Last Updated: Tue 13 Jan 2009

The work of Anthony Van Dyck will be the subject of a major new exhibition at one of the country's top art galleries.

Tate Britain will host Van Dyck and Britain from Feburary 18th to May 17th this year, looking back at how the Flanders-trained painter influenced his contemporaries and those who followed him.

As the principle painter of the court of King James I, Van Dyck's career culminated in a series of exquisite works before his premature death at the age of 42.

This important exhibition draws together work Van Dyck produced while living in England. It will examine his depiction of the British ruling classes and the impact on portraiture and composition that this influential figure had on the future of the art in this country.
