Owls prepare for starring role at ZSL London Zoo
Last Updated: Sun 7 Sep 2008

ZSL London Zoo, one of the top tourist attractions in the city of London, is home to three new burrowing owls who were saved when their underground home was flooded.

The owls had been looked after by keeper Darren Jordan and, after putting on weight and developing into young adults, the birds are entering a new phase in their lives.

ZSL London Zoo's Animals in Action team have since been working with the owls, preparing them for their debut in the attraction's amphitheatre where they will go on show to the public.

According to BurrowingOwls.co.uk, the breed of bird was first discovered in Chile by an Italian Jesuit priest in 1782. While they have a lifespan of around nine years in the wild, this increases to ten years in captivity.

London Pass holders can receive free entry to ZSL London Zoo.
