Green-fingered teenager to work as gardener at Windsor Castle
Last Updated: Sat 6 Sep 2008

A teenager from Crosby on Merseyside is to start work as a landscape gardener at Windsor Castle.

Gardening student Carl Donnelly, 18, beat hundred of applicants to secure a year-long placement at the 5,000-acre Windsor Great Park.

Mr Donnelly will live next door to the royal lodge of Prince Andrew while he works on the crown estate's private Saville garden. His flat will also be next to Guards Polo Club, occasioned by Princes William and Harry, reports the Crosby Herald.

He commented: "This is the job I have always wanted to do. As a kid I used to walk around castles looking at the gardens, and I hope that after this, I will go back to college, finish my course, then get a job at Buckingham Palace."

London Pass holders can receive free entry to Windsor Castle, a landmark which is more than 900 years old.
