London Wetland Centre affiliate 'steps up conservation efforts'
Last Updated: Sun 24 Aug 2008

The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, affiliated with the London Wetland Centre, has announced its intention to further its current conservation efforts for the Red-breasted Goose.

The decision was made by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, followed recent survey results which highlighted that population numbers had halved to just over 30,000 birds in the last decade.

Currently, the Red-breasted Goose is classed as an endangered species on the World Conservation Union Red List.

In a bid to reverse the current trend, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, one of london's popular visitor attractions, is to fund the development of a field station at Bulgaria, where the Red-breasted Geese spend their winters.

As well as acting as a focal point for those keen on the conservation of the birds, the plot will act as accommodation for researchers.

Advice will also be given to farmers on how to manage their land so as not to harm the geese.

Visitors to the London Wetland Centre can gain entry to the venue using their London Pass.
