Fashion in the Palm of Your Hand at the Fan Museum
Last Updated: Wed 23 Jul 2008

A stylish exhibition is currently on show at the Fan Museum in London.

Tourists in London can see Fashion in the Palm of Your Hand at the Fan Museum from now until October 26th 2008.

The exhibition is part of a collaboration between Central Saint Martins and the Fan Museum and highlights how the fan, like the Chanel bag of today, was the 'It' fashion item of the past.

Considered a "must-have accessory" for fashion-aware women of the Elizabethan era, the fan was epitomised as the "ultimate feminine status symbol" by Elizabeth I.

The fan was once used in England as an implement of flirtation and as a display of wealth and power.

At the Fan Museum, visitors will be able to see examples of the most decadent fans, covered in jewels and designed from precious materials.

Nowadays the fan continues to be used in fashion, from music videos to magazine photo shoots and catwalk shows.

Fashion in the Palm of your Hand takes visitors on a journey from the time of Oliver Cromwell to the modern era where the fan is used in a modern fashion by Burlesque artiste, Dita Von Teese.

Visitors to the Fan Museum can gain entry to the venue using their London Pass.
