Travel guides 'likely to see a change'

Published: Wednesday 29th of April 2009

Younger generations are likely to adopt more interactive travel guides, reveals one expert.

Tom Hall, the travel editor at Lonely Planet, says devices such as mobile phones and iPods are likely to be adapted to tourists' needs.

"When you are in a particularly remote place, or when you are in a particularly busy place and you might not want to be seen using an expensive piece of technology," she says, highlighting one of the potential pitfalls.

Furthermore, Ms Hall believes that the trend will depend on the device itself, with many people these days generally owning a mobile handset or MP3 player.

STA Travel and the Future Laboratory recently said that the tourism experience is going to become more immersive as digital content is embedded in everything.

People thinking of navigating their way around top London attractions, either with or without a digital device, can do so for less with the London Pass.
