Things to do in London: The Welcoming City

Published: Thursday 1st of July 2010

Visitors making their way to London this weekend can catch the last leg of the unique London Festival of Architecture.

This year's festival has been titled The Welcoming City and gives visitors as well as city-dwellers an innovative way of discovering the capital's architecture.

Building enthusiasts can learn about this unique city through a series of guided walks, cycling tours and boat excursions. These will be complemented by a range of talks, workshops and exhibitions centred on London's architecture and town planning.

Open-air installations will be showcasing work by budding architects alongside those of international fame. The event will also be calling on the local community to make the most of their neighbourhoods and work towards conserving and improving it.

The Urban Island Project has been designed to reclaim London's empty spaces and utilise them effectively.

Visitors can also enjoy the spoils of nature by adding a trip to the Kew Gardens' summer festival to their list of things to do in London.

Discover more for less with a London sightseeing pass.
