Things to do in London: Elephant Parade 2010

Published: Friday 18th of June 2010

Visitors planning their visits to London attractions like the London Zoo or enjoying the day out on bikes with the London Bicycle Tour Company can witness the rare event of an elephant migration.

The spectacle will see a 250-strong herd of life-size elephant statues making their way across the capital city.

Organised by the Elephant Family, the event is aimed at raising awareness about the real threat of extinction faced by Asian elephants.

The Elephant Parade will see fibre-glass elephants that have been painted and embellished by artists such as Marc Quinn, Lulu Guinness and Diane von Furstenberg.

These elephants will follow a route through London, making appearances at the South Bank, Trafalgar Square as well as the Parliament Square before finally arriving at the Royal Chelsea Hospital for an auction (June 25th to 28th).

All proceeds from the fundraising would be directed towards conservation projects for the Asian elephant.
