Published: Tuesday 23rd of February 2010

St Pauls Cathedral now has a rival for its place on the capital's skyline, with the unfinished Heron Tower already laying claim to being the tallest London attraction in the city.

Still under construction, Heron Tower near London Bridge already stands head and shoulders above Tower 42 in the City.

Although not one of the most obvious places to visit as a London attraction, the construction site is certainly among the things to see in London whether tourists like it or not.

The glass structure will stand at an impressive 246 metres when it is finished, and will be the tallest building in the UK, taking over the mantle from Canada Square's Canary Wharf.

St Paul's Cathedral, the Gherkin tower, Tower Bridge and the London Eye are among the London attractions that already dominate the capital's skyline.

However, Heron Tower is among a number of skyscraper projects planned for the capital that will alter the appearance of the London skyline for some years to come.
