Published: Wednesday 19th of August 2009

Visitors to the capital will be spoilt for choice when it comes to where to rest their weary heads after enjoying free entry and fast track to more than 55 London attractions in the run-up to the 2012 Games.

Hotel development in London remains strong despite the recession, as investors look to make the most of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, figures from Visit London and TRI Hospitality consulting show.

The research suggests an increase of 12 per cent in the next three years, taking the total number of London hotel rooms to 123,000, some 4,300 of which are expected to be available next year for those visiting London attractions.

Visit London interim chief executive officer Sally Chatterjee said the Games provide "a valuable stimulus to bringing forward developments that might otherwise have taken many years to get off the ground".

The capital is hoping to continue to host major sporting events in years to come, with Mayor of London Boris Johnson and the capital's football clubs launching the campaign for the city to be a host venue in England's 2018 World Cup bid.
