Mayor launches grand piano plan
Published: Thursday 4th of June 2009
Mayor of London Boris Johnson is to place 31 pianos around the capital in a bid to inspire community spirit.
Starting at the end of the month, they will be chained to several locations around London for three weeks, complete with laminated songbooks.
The mayor hopes people will gather around the pianos to take part in a group singsong, while the instruments will be adorned with images suited to where they are located.
For example, the piano outside the Bank of England will come complete with pound signs and the one on Carnaby Street with display psychedelic swirls.
