London to host month of festivities

Published: Friday 27th of February 2009

London mayor Boris Johnson has unveiled plans for a month of celebrations in the city, with a host of events set to take place.

In the surroundings of Hampton Court Palace, he announced the Story of London will take place this June, with a range of different themes running throughout the course of the month.

"Throughout history we have faced lows as well as highs but London constantly reinvents itself and the city and its people are always resilient and dynamic enough to weather the storm," he told reporters.

Among the highlights will be music events celebrating the city through a series of three weekends focusing on music from the past, present and future at the Royal Academy of Music.

Furthermore, the weekend of June 20th and 21st will see historian Tristram Hunt curating a series of lectures on the city, encompassing everything from the building of St Paul's to the Whitehall of the Cold War.

Visitors to the city with a London Pass can gain free entry to a number of attractions to experience the history of the capital for themselves.
