London celebrates St George's Day
Published: Saturday 25th of April 2009
St George's Day was celebrated in style in London this week, it has been revealed.
London mayor Boris Johnson was on hand to mark the occasion and took a trip on a Routemaster bus alongside celebrity chef Gary Rhodes.
He asked the crowds: "Where better to celebrate our patron saint than in the English capital?
"What better time than St George's Day to bring us all together to express the pride we have in our country."
The day coincided with Shakespeare's birthday, which the mayor saw as a fitting way of acknowledging England's rich history and culture.
Today (April 25th) will see a major music concert taking place in Trafalgar Square, with the likes of Seth Lakeman, Jim Moray and Kathryn Tickell on hand to help with the celebrations.
With the London Pass, visitors to the capital can take in a range of top attractions with no extra charge.
