London black cabs 'part of the experience'

Published: Monday 1st of June 2009

Getting in the back of a world-famous black cab in London is a part of the whole experience when visiting the city, according to one expert.

John Thomas, chairman of the Licensed Taxi Drivers' Association, said it is on par with seeing the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace or passing a red bus or telephone box.

He revealed that the amount of training taxi drivers have to undertake is reflected in the quality of service they provide.

Mr Thomas continued: "Obviously this has a lot to do with the training that is undertaken.

"It takes two to three years to get a badge."

People heading to London to take a trip in a black cab can make the most of their trip with the London Pass.

It gives free entry to a range of top attractions, including St Paul's Cathedral and Kensington Palace.
