London attractions: Sand-less urban beach
Published: Saturday 17th of July 2010
Visitors making their way down to the capital can enjoy a unique beach experience for things to do in London.
Travellers can relax alongside Londoners in the summer sun on deck chairs as the Lyric Square is transformed into an Urban Beach - minus the sand.
As part of the HammersmithLondon Festival, visitors will be treated to street performances, gymnastic shows, music gigs, and live screenings. The adjoining farmer's market will also provide plenty of options for light snacks and refreshments.
Arun Sondhi, executive director of HammersmithLondon, said: "The concept underpinning the Urban Beach is simple. We want the space surround Lyric Square to be a thriving and vibrant space for residents, visitors and local businesses.
The event serves the double purpose of supporting and boosting local businesses as well welcoming visitors to promote creativity and community spirit, he added.
Families with young children could also take advantage of the Children's Art Day events across London and head down to the Florence Nightingale Museum for a pinhole photography session.
