London St George's Day plans underway

Published: Saturday 4th of April 2009

Mayor of London Boris Johnson has announced a programme of free events to celebrate St George's Day on April 23rd.

The London attractions will include English food and drink in Leadenhall Market, a concert in Trafalgar Square and Shakespeare celebration at the Globe theatre.

"We have much to be proud of in this great country, England has given so much to the world, politically, socially and artistically," Mr Johnson states.

"St George's Day is a time to celebrate the very best of everything English."

He calls on everyone, residents and tourists alike, to celebrate England's patron saint and all that London has to offer.

The capital is a city like no other in the world, visitors have told Visit London.

People questioned by the body highlighted the culture, history and experiences on offer in London and communications director Ken Kelling added that London attractions are "unique and special".

Those in the capital on St George's Day can use a London Pass to save money on a variety of London attractions, museums and historic buildings.
