London Festival of Architecture at London Canal Museum

The London Festival of Architecture 2008 is taking place this month with events occurring at the London Canal Museum.

Taking place until July 20th, the festival is a celebration and exploration of the top places to visit in London in terms of buildings, streets and spaces.

A wide spectrum of events - including public space installations, exhibitions, lectures, guided walks, bicycle rides and boat tours will take place across five different hubs around the city centre.

On Sunday July 6th, a talk will take place at the London Canal Museum on Ice Wells and Ice Traders by trustee Malcolm Tucker.

The talk will explore the history of ice wells in north London and the Victorian ice trade

Waterscape.com reports that Carlo Gatti is "credited with being Britain's first ice cream man, cutting ice from the Regent's Canal to make ice cream, a previously exclusive delight reserved for the rich, ice cream was made available to Londoner's in his cafe which he opened in Holborn in 1849".

London Pass holders can receive free entry to the London Canal Museum.
