London Fashion Week opens its doors
Published: Friday 20th of February 2009
London Fashion Week gets off to a flying start today, with some of the world's hottest designers taking to the capital to showcase their latest collections.
Maria Grachvogel and Duro Olowu are among the top names set to appear over the coming days, with some designers opting for low-key presentations this year.
Victoria Beckham, for example, is reported to have organised a presentation for members of the press and interested buyers.
"Given the current economic climate, I feel it is more a time of focusing on genuine creativity rather than unnecessary extravagance," Olowu reveals to the Daily Telegraph.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the event, which will see no fewer than 58 shows taking place, with designers unveiling their autumn/winter 2009 collections to the rest of the world.
Visitors to London wanting to follow all the goings-on of one of fashion's main events can benefit from unlimited journeys on London transport with their London Pass at a cost of just £7 a day.
