London Eye 'set for a makeover'

Published: Monday 18th of May 2009

A top London attraction is set to undergo a £12.5 million makeover to make it more eco-friendly.

Merlin Entertainments Group, which owns the attraction, is set to improve the air condition and ventilation on board the wheel.

"This will ensure the London Eye operates at maximum efficiency and is cutting down its carbon footprint well into the future," revealed David Sharpe from the company.

In order to ensure minimum disruption to tourists, there will be a temporary capsule in place to carry visitors while another is out of service.

Merlin Entertainments Group expects that the work will mean that no maintenance is needed on the London Eye for around 20 years.

The upgrade will begin this summer and is expected to last until 2012, with other improvements including the installation of ceiling-mounted TV screens.

With the London Pass, a number of the city's top attractions can be visited for no extra charge.
