London 'continues to do well with tourists'
Published: Thursday 30th of April 2009
London welcomed over 26 million tourists last year, new figures reveal, marking a two per cent increase on figures from 2007.
Furthermore, there was an increase in the number of visitors from other parts of the UK, suggesting domestic tourism is faring well.
The statistics, compiled by Visit London, come as the group announces the start of its Only in London campaign.
Visit London's chief executive Sally Chatterjee commented: "London's visitor figures have remained steady despite a dip towards the end of last year.
"However, it is more important than ever that we continue to promote London to both domestic and international audiences."
Visits from Italian tourists remained strong, with France and Germany also contributing to the city's tourist market.
With the London Pass, visitors from any part of the world can head to a range of the city's top attractions free of charge.
