Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "London is a city where around almost every corner there has been a great Eureka! moment. Full of pioneering bright sparks in every field, there are hundreds of stories to be discovered."
A pop-up beach at Whitechapel also promises visitors the chance to relax on deck chairs and delve into the world of literature to discover a world of holiday novels or enjoy a spot of fun by participating in a literary volleyball.
