First London Restaurant Festival set to tickle tastebuds

Published: Sunday 5th of April 2009

People visiting London later this year are sure to have their tastebuds tickled by the inaugural London Restaurant Festival.

The citywide celebration of food and drink aims to raise the profile of establishments taking part and is supported by the mayor Boris Johnson and Visit London.

It is the creation of restaurant critic Fay Maschler and her business partner Simon Davis and will also feature a street festival, film shows, demonstrations and lectures.

Some 6,000 eateries can be found in the capital, offering those who have spent a day enjoying London attractions plenty of choice when it comes to fuelling themselves for more sightseeing with a good meal.

"The sheer scale and diversity of the capital's gastronomic delights is testament to the vibrancy of our city and the many communities living and eating here," comments Mr Johnson.

London Restaurant Festival takes place between October 8th and 13th and will also include a suppliers market, a chance for would-be restaurateurs to pitch their ideas to the industry and a University Challenge quiz.

Food fans in the capital during the London Restaurant Festival can save money on many London attractions with a London Pass.
