Currency cards 'a great way to spend abroad'

Published: Saturday 21st of March 2009

People travelling to the UK might want to consider taking a cash card with them, suggests one expert.

Stephen Heath, chief executive of FairFX.com, says this gives the security of chip and PIN and allows people to pay for their purchases efficiently.

"It can be used to pay in many different situations and it is also more secure because if you lose the card you haven't lost your cash," he reveals.

Mr Heath also suggests it is a better idea than "loading up … at Heathrow airport", where people are unlikely to get the best deal on their currency.

According to the Office for National Statistics Travel Trends 2007 report, published earlier this year, overseas residents made 32.8 million visits to the UK in 2007, an all-time record.

Visitors to the capital wanting to save more money should take advantage of the London Pass, which, when purchased, allows free access to a number of attractions.
