Contactless payment for 2012 London attractions?

Published: Saturday 18th of April 2009

London attractions could really "show off" by introducing mobile contactless payment technology in time for the 2012 Olympics, it has been claimed.

David Birch, director of Consult Hyperion, explained that London is a "really interesting place ... because we are seeing the contactless roll out".

He said: "We had the pilot last year of the Oyster card phones and the Oyster itself is everywhere.

"Considering all of these factors 2012 would be an excellent arena for UK companies to show off some great business innovation."

But while London attractions could be convinced to introduce mobile contactless payment technology, an article in suggests that retailers are reluctant to adopt contactless technology ahead of the Olympics.

However, Mr Birch believes that this reluctance, which has also spread to Olympic chiefs, should not put businesses off.

"I think 2012 should be a chance for the UK to show something off in a positive way," he said.
