Calls for boost to London tourism
Published: Saturday 28th of March 2009
London attractions and the city's tourism sector would benefit from more government support, bodies say.
As British Tourism Week draws to a close, holiday accommodation firm Blue Chip Vacations is highlighting the success of tourism in the country and calling on more action to help sustain the industry.
"During this period of economic slowdown the UK holiday sector is one of the few positive success stories around," explains managing director Liam Gavin.
He predicts a good year ahead for tourism despite the recession, which could boost London attractions.
Bernard Donoghue, co-chairman of British Tourism Week, adds that the credit crunch also means more Brits are holidaying at home, inspired by sights such as London historic buildings.
A £2 million international marketing campaign to attract visitors to London attractions was this week announced by the mayor of London Boris Johnson.
He highlighted the many London attractions tourists can visit, such as the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye.
With the London Pass, visitors can save money on many London attractions and take advantage of special offers.
