Visitors to London attractions should be wary of online scams
Published: Friday 11th of June 2010
Visitors looking for things to do in London could opt for a night out in the West End, soaking in all the music and art the city has to offer.
To ensure that visits to theatres are hassle free, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has issued a check-list to help theatre-lovers avoid online scams.
Recent findings from the OFT indicate that one in twelve buyers who purchased their tickets online to sports, theatre and music venues have fallen prey to online scammers with the average loss being around £80.
Michele Shambrook, operations manager for OFT-managed advice service Consumer Direct, said the Just Tick It campaign was aimed at helping people recognise fake and scamming websites.
He said: "It's very easy to be tempted by cheap online offers, or websites that say they have tickets to sold out shows - but remember that if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is."
The Mayor of London recently announced the launch of the Culture Diary which will help visitors plan their visits to Shakespeare's Globe Theatre Tour & Exhibition, the British Music Experience and other such attractions.
