U2 shock fans with rooftop gig

Published: Monday 2nd of March 2009

Rock legends U2 surprised the residents of London last week after playing a set in a rather unusual location.

The band, who were promoting their new album No Line on the Horizon, scaled the roof of BBC's Broadcasting House on February 27th.

Featuring in the 20-minute set was a rendition of the group's latest single, Get on Your Boots along with classic U2 tracks such as Beautiful Day and Vertigo.

The four-piece entertained a 5,000-strong crowd, with fans informed just minutes before the performance that it was due to take place.

U2's previous attempt at a rooftop gig was in 1987 when they mounted the top of the Republic Liquor Store in LA, which was then halted by the police.

Visitors to London can see the BBC Broadcasting House and many other attractions with their London Pass, which can be coupled with a travel card for just £7 a day.
