Top marks for the Courtauld

Published: Friday 26th of December 2008

The Courtauld Institute of Art, the educational establishment run alongside the Courtauld Gallery, has received excellent marks for the quality of its research.

This year's Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), which is run by the higher education authorities for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, rated the establishment in first place for History of Art.

The RAE also said that 80 per cent of the research conducted at the institute was world-leading or internationally excellent.

Deborah Swallow, Marit Rausing Director of The Courtauld Institute of Art, said: "We are delighted with the outcome of RAE 2008 and extremely proud to have achieved these outstanding results.

"My warmest congratulations go to all our academics and support staff for all they have done to achieve this."

The institute is an independent college of the University of London and offers a range of higher education qualifications in art and art-related areas.

LondonPass holders can see a wonderful collection of art at the Courtauld Gallery in London's famous Somerset House for free, saving £5 for adults.
