To see in London: Dance Umbrella festival

Published: Friday 9th of October 2009

While London sightseeing this month you might come across dance performances in some strange locations, such as an inner-city car park, as London's annual dance festival has returned to the city.

Dance Umbrella welcomes all ages, nationalities and styles and has commissioned, produced and presented new dance in London every year since 1978.

This year's festival, which runs until Saturday November 7th, returns with a fantastic programme of new dance works by established performers and fresh talent from around the world.

Visitors who are London sightseeing can discover colourful human sculptures on London Bridge, be inspired by a series of new dance from Africa and even see a performance in a London car park.

Dance Umbrella said it believes everyone should experience dance and is committed to collaborating and working in partnership with artists and other organisations to create and present the highest quality new dance.

It claims to be responsible for the explosion of interest in contemporary dance in the UK, increasing public awareness of the art-form and inspiring artistic excellence.
