Tate Britain unveils Triennial 2009
Published: Friday 6th of February 2009
One of London's most prestigious art galleries has unveiled it's latest major exhibition.
Tate Britain's Triennial 2009, entitled Altermodern, is said to reflect the current face of British art – what the curator Nicolas Bourriaud refers to as 'alternative modern'.
Highlights of the event, which features a blend of established names alongside lesser-known artists, include Indian Subodh Gupta.
The artist's Line of Control sees mundane objects such as stainless-steel pots and pans manipulated to form an evocative mushroom-cloud shape.
Art critic for the Times Richard Dorment pays tribute to the energy and dynamism of the exhibition, underscoring its visceral, deliberately unsettling quality.
"A seemingly endless stream of politics, porn, science fiction, history, culture and science flows past you so fast that when you leave it is hard to say where you’ve been," he says.
