Pitmen Painters has a "truly visceral pull" at National Theatre
Published: Thursday 12th of March 2009
The Pitmen Painters, which is currently showing at the National Theatre, has a "different kind of an interest", one reviewer believes.
Michael Glover tells the Independent that an upstairs exhibition in the theatre complements the show well and provides as "truly visceral pull".
"It is about a particular group of miners who worked the seams of Ashington colliery in Northumberland in the early 1930s," he writes.
The performance has been met with widespread praise, with the Evening Standard referring to it as a "perfectly pitched and acted production", which manages to be "tragic, funny and illuminating" all at once.
It is currently showing at the Lyttelton, following its success at the Live Theatre in Newcastle and in the Cottlesloe.
With the London Pass, visitors to the city can get behind the scenes of the action with the National Theatre Backstage Tours.
With the pass, adults can save £5 on the price of a ticket and children £4.
