Mayor announces £400k tourism boost
Published: Monday 27th of April 2009
Mayor of London Boris Johnson has announced plans for a cash injection to help the city's tourism industry.
He proposes that £400,000 will be invested in four central London boroughs - Kensington and Chelsea, Camden, the City of London and Westminster.
It is estimated that these four areas constitute about half of all tourism spend in the capital, with the extra money aimed at strengthening existing campaigns.
The mayor said: "It is crucial that we take nothing for granted and continue shouting from the rooftops that London is a fantastic city to visit, whether filling your shopping bags, visiting one of our incredible museums, or grabbing a meal."
He hopes that the funding will help boost visitor numbers even further, with the city needing to show that it is weathering the downturn.
London has a wealth of tourist attractions, which visitors can visit for less if they get hold of the London Pass.
Among them is the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art, which is sure to excite any art fan looking for a top London attraction.
