London East festival set to go
Published: Wednesday 4th of March 2009
The East festival, a six-day celebration of the east of London, starts tomorrow.
With more than 300 events on offer, covering everything from art and fashion to food and performance, East is curated by the mayor of London Boris Johnson and highlights some of the London attractions in the area.
"I hope the programme will encourage those who have not visited the area to come and explore its many facets," Mr Johnson says.
East kicks off with exhibitions on French architect Le Corbusier, a lunchtime Bollywood extravaganza and a performance of Pied Piper at the Barbican Centre.
Over the six days, other events include walks, comedy shows and art courses, at venues including the Museum of London Docklands, the Barbican Art Gallery and Spitalfields Market.
Visitors to east London for the festival can also enjoy the area's many other attractions, such as the Geffrye Museum, Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park and the Whitechapel Gallery.
Those with a London Pass can gain free entry to various attractions in the capital to experience its sights and sounds.
