Published: Tuesday 28th of July 2009

The first screening in this year's the Times British Film Institute London Film Festival is to be a world premiere of Fantastic Mr Fox.

Based on the children's book written by Roald Dahl, Fantastic Mr Fox is director Wes Anderson's first animated film, co-written with Noah Baumbach.

It uses handmade stop motion techniques and features the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson and Jarvis Cocker.

"Wes Anderson's boundless invention and meticulous film making craft find perfect expression in this imaginative and hugely enjoyable version of a much loved story," commented Sandra Hebron, artistic director of the festival.

Shot at the Three Mills Studios in London, the film goes on general release on October 23rd, with the premiere opening the festival on October 14th.

The full programme for the 53rd festival will be announced in September with a whole host of screenings and events set to take place during the two weeks.

Film fans in London during the festivities can use a London Pass to save money on many of the city's attractions, museums and historic buildings.
