Enjoy a photographic journey back in time for things to do in London

Art-lovers planning on visiting the National Gallery can nip over to the nearby National Portrait Gallery for things to do in London.

Visitors can take a trip back in time with the astounding photography of Camille Silvy, which will be exhibited at the portrait gallery till October 24th.

Pioneer of many techniques such as fashion, theatre and street photography, the events seeks to capture his works from 1857-67.

During this period, the photographer worked extensively in Paris, London, in the French countryside and in Algiers.

Some of the pictures which have not been exhibited since the 1860s give visitors an artful insight into the nineteenth century world.

Silvy used a wide range of people as subjects for his portraits. These included members of the royal family as well as common people. As a result, the pictures have captured a wide cross-section of life in those times.
