Bizarre architecture pondered at London event
Published: Sunday 22nd of February 2009
The work of Erno Goldfinger, the architect behind many of the country's most memorable buildings, has been discussed by those in the know at a series of recent lectures.
Responsible for Alexander Fleming House and Balfron Tower, the architect's work is subject to some differences of opinion, says BD Online.
"Alexander Fleming House in Elephant and Castle, south London, is a monstrosity to many," the website states.
Delegates at the Royal Academy lectures also pondered over the practicalities of a moat Goldfinger incorporated with one of his designs, with BD Online suggesting not everyone was appreciative of its brilliance.
Alexander Fleming is best-known for his discovery of penicillin and spent most of his years in London, despite helping out with the First World War effort by serving in the Army Medical Corps.
Those with a London Pass can visit the Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum for free, saving themselves £2 per adult and £1 per child.
