Wimbledon prize money set to increase
Published: Monday 11th of May 2009
The winner of Wimbledon this year will receive a 13.3 per cent rise in their winnings, it has been revealed.
It is believed that the increase reflects the bankers behind the game, who often operate in dollars.
"We recognise the fact that many of the players who compete deal in US dollars or Euros," commented club boss Tim Phillips.
He added that the exchange rate this year had "come very much" into their thinking, leading them to make the decision to change the winnings.
Both the winners of the men's and women's tournaments will walk away with £850,000.
With the London Pass, visitors to the city can embark on the Wimbledon Tour Experience for themselves, getting behind the scenes of the world-famous competition.
For no extra cost, they can see the likes of centre court, the press interview room and the Millennium Building, saving £18 per adult and £13 per child.
