Wimbledon Centre Court set for roof trial
Published: Wednesday 17th of December 2008
A trial for the new roof on Wimbledon's iconic Centre Court has been announced by the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
On Sunday May 17th next year a ticketed event will be held in which the new roof and air conditioning system will be tested.
While no details have yet been announced as to the nature of the event, there has been some speculation that former British number one and four-time Wimbledon semi-finalist Tim Henman could be lined up to play an exhibition match.
Such an occasion would certainly draw the crowds and create a swell of nostalgia among ardent fans.
The event is scheduled for five weeks prior to the start of the 2009 Wimbledon Championships on Jun 22nd, which have a history of being interrupted by rain delays.
LondonPass holder can gain free entry to two great attractions at this historic sports venue – the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum and the Wimbledon Tour Experience – saving a total of £15.50 for adults and £11 for children.
