Troubling times for Chelsea's star striker
Published: Wednesday 3rd of December 2008
A key figure in the fortunes of Chelsea football club has conceded the he lost his burning desire for the game before the start of the current season.
The Blues' centre forward Didier Drogba also revealed that he knows he must wait his turn in the side while Frenchman Nicolas Anelka enjoys a run of goalscoring form.
In an interview with France Football magazine, the 30-year-old Ivorian powerhouse said: "This summer, I no longer had a head for football. I had completely lost the fire. I no longer wanted to hear talk of targets or ambition.
"I felt completely extinguished. For the first time in my career, I had lost the passion for football. I was lost."
Despite a series of confident performances since returning to the side after an injury-enforced lay-off, the striker might have to bide his time while Chelsea make their title challenge in the wake of Liverpool, who lead the league by three points.
"At the moment, there's a guy who is hot and racking up goals. I must wait my turn."
