Things to do in London: Visit the new baseball and cricket exhibition at Lords
Published: Tuesday 8th of June 2010
A new exhibition of baseball and cricket artefacts and memorabilia has opened at the London attraction Lord's Cricket Ground.
Collections on display have been drawn from the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown.
Contributions to the exhibition have also been received by the CC Morris Cricket Library and Collection in Philadelphia.
It is hoped that the new collection will enhance the tourist experience of US visitors to London, who can combine the visit with a Lord’s cricket ground Tour and visit to one of the capital's great sporting venues with the Chelsea FC Stadium Tour.
MCC curator Adam Chadwick explained that the exhibition is the first to explore the two sports of cricket and baseball side by side.
He said: "Cricket today stands on the brink of an astonishing metamorphosis.
"Thirty years after the first changes wrought by its own 'World Series', the newly minted Twenty20, the shortest and shiniest form of the game yet, promises to complete a transformation from national pastime to international entertainment."
Prudent tourists may even be able to arrange their visit to the museum to coincide with the one day international test between England and Australia on July 3rd.
