Sporting London attractions win approval as capital named Ultimate Sports City
Published: Friday 7th of May 2010
A Wembley Stadium Tour experience offers tourists the opportunity to experience one of the best sporting venues in Europe, after the city won a new accolade.
London attractions will no doubt relish the UK's capital being named an Ultimate Sports City by the SportsBusiness Group.
The capital made fourth spot on the list, falling behind German capital Berlin in third, Singapore in second and Australia's Melbourne in first place.
Commenting on the accolade, Visit London head of events for London Iain Edmondson explained: "We recognise London's role as a genuinely global city which is diverse, inspirational and dynamic.
"We are delighted to be named as the ultimate in Europe and with the overall third position in the global ranking - one day we hope to be number one."
Wembley is due to host the FA Carlsberg Trophy Final this weekend (May 8th) and will be the England venue for the World Cup 2010 warm-up game against Mexico later this month (May 24th).
Major sporting events already hosted at the venue this year include England's iconic 3-1 victory over Egypt in March, in addition to the NFL International Series game between the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in October 2009.
