Skyride London attraction wins sports award
Published: Saturday 22nd of May 2010
The Skyride cycling London attraction and sports event has been named the Sports Participation Event of the Year at the Sport Industry Awards.
Organised by the Mayor of London Boris Johnson, the mass cycle ride involved more than 65,000 people, who passed by some of London's most iconic sights on their journey.
Mr Johnson's transport adviser Kulveer Ranger picked up the award, which he claimed was testament to the Mayor's commitment to a "genuine cycling revolution".
He said: "The Mayor of London's Skyride is a fantastic occasion - a free, family event that gives many thousands of people the chance to enjoy cycling past some of the capital's most stunning sights on traffic-free streets.
"This year is very much London's year of cycling, and Skyride will be back even bigger and better."
Next month, the Science Museum will host a Spin Off event that pays homage to tour riders. The gathering will see professional cyclists and sports physiology experts offering insights into what it takes to tackle the Tour de France competition.
