Olympics 'will boost UK tourism'

Published: Sunday 15th of March 2009

The Olympics in 2012 will provide London with a range of opportunities, one expert states.

A "vast difference" will be seen, says Dee Doocey, Liberal Democrat member of the London Assembly and chair of the economic development, culture, sport and tourism committee, adding that it will help get tourists back into the city.

She adds: "I actually believe that this will happen mainly because of all the iconic locations that we have got and the fact that there is going to be so much [going on]."

They will also be good for the rest of the UK, the expert believes, with events taking place throughout the country.

VisitBritain estimates that 2012 Olympics might generate around £2 billion for Britain’s international visitor economy.

London already has its fair share of sporting sights, with London Pass holders able to visit locations such as Wimbledon and Chelsea FC.
