ODA to re-configure traffic routes for Olympics 2012
Published: Wednesday 4th of August 2010
Visitors planning their trips to the Olympic Games in 2012 should keep an eye on the changes that are being put in place to negotiate traffic in London during the event.
A wide range of activities and things to do in London will no doubt put extra pressure on the transport networks of the capital.
As a pre-emptive measure, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has announced plans for re-configuring traffic routes to allow better connections to and from stadiums and arenas.
The plans involve only allowing offside lanes on certain routes to be used by Olympic traffic in order to ensure speedy travel for athletes, officials and media representatives.
Subsequently, vehicles will not be able to access right turns on these roads between 06:00 and 00:00 BST.
"Where Games Lanes are required there will inevitably be some temporary disruption to everyday life, but we must give athletes the best chance to train and compete effectively," commented John Armitt, chairman of the ODA.
Travellers can visit London attractions such as the Chelsea FC Stadium Tour and keep up-to-date with all the events in 2012 by using the online culture diary.
