Murray form rewarded with fourth seeding in Australia

Published: Thursday 15th of January 2009

Hopes of a home-grown grand slam champion were given a boost as tournament organisers revealed Andy Murray has been seeded fourth for this year's Australian Open.

In 2008 Murray asserted himself on the world scene in superb fashion, with gruelling winter training clearly paying dividends.

The season saw the Scot claim fourth place in the world rankings – reflected in his seeding - as he won an incredible five titles, reached his first grand slam quarter-final at Wimbledon and then his first ever final the US Open, where he was defeated by five-times champion Roger Federer.

Unbeaten so far this season, Murray has shown every sign that he will be able to build on his success and continue improving, defeating Roger Federer twice in the process and retaining his title in Doha, Qatar.
