Free Entry & Fast Track to 55+: 2012 Olympic support boat procurement gets underway

Published: Monday 1st of March 2010

The Olympic Delivery Authority has continued its preparations for the 2012 Olympic Games, which will be one of the capital's largest London attractions.

A process to source more than 180 support boats for the sailing, rowing, canoeing, triathlon and Open Water Swim events has been started by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).

The boats could be visible from Tower Bridge and Monument along the Thames, where fans of some of the events may gather to watch the progress of athletes.

LOCOG commercial director Chris Townsend said: "The boat and marine services procurement is a valuable opportunity for the UK marine industry.

"Securing the supply of a wide range of boats for use by client groups including mark layers, marshals and media will play a crucial part in the successful staging of the water-based events at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games."

Fifty LOCOG staff were present at the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games last month to get some tips on how to ensure the events are a success.

LOCOG chairman Seb Coe said: "The four 's's we've identified - sport, service, stadia and sites – give us real food for thought and an added level of detail to our planning."
