England team announced for Six Nations opener
Published: Tuesday 3rd of February 2009
The RFU has announced the side which it hopes will see England make a winning start to their Six Nations campaign against Italy at Twickenham on Saturday (February 7th).
Most notably, the group includes fly-half Andy Goode who will return to action for this country for the first time in 27 months.
Elsewhere, London Irish's Steffon Armitage is in line to receive his first cap, alongside brother Delon, while Mark Cueto also returns to the England fold.
The most glaring absentee is London Wasps' Danny Cipriani, who has been named for the England Saxons' match against Ireland A on Friday, following patchy form for both club and country in recent months.
Following the disappointment of the Autumn Internationals, former World Cup-winning captain and now head coach Martin Johnson will be hoping that he can give the dedicated England fans something to cheer about as this prestigious annual event gets underway.
LondonPass holders can visit Twickenham, the home of English Rugby, for free on and enjoy the World Rugby Museum and Twickenham Stadium Tour (non-match days only) – saving a fantastic £10 for adults and £7 for children.
