City to host summer cycling scheme

Published: Tuesday 26th of May 2009

London is set to host a summer full of two-wheeled activities, following an announcement by the city's mayor.

Boris Johnson revealed plans for a cycling revolution in the city, which will hopefully encourage families to get together and enjoy the great outdoors.

"Cycling is on the up in London, but there is still much to do if we want to really revolutionise the way that Londoners get about," he revealed at the launch event in Trafalgar Square.

He revealed how investments were being made in cycle hire schemes and a schedule of events to make people more interested in the environmentally-friendly means of travelling.

It is estimated that 545,000 cycle journeys are made every day in London, up nine per cent since Mr Johnson was elected.

With the London Pass, exploring the city on two wheels is easy as it offers a London Bicycle Tour free of charge, saving £18.95 on the cost of a normal ticket.
