Chelsea stutter as title ambitions take another hit

Published: Monday 9th of February 2009

Any hopes of Chelsea regaining their Premier League crown looked even less likely after a lacklustre display saw their match with Hull finish goalless and left them seven points and one game adrift from pacesetters Manchester United.

As has become a worrying hallmark of their recent play, Chelsea looked largely toothless going forward, lacking either invention or a coherent shape in the business of playing the ball into the box or threatening their opponent's backline.

For all the expensive talent on display it was Hull's relatively bargainous back four which shut out the home side for the duration, with what few chances that fell Chelsea's way squandered by a group of players who might have appeared to some like they simply couldn't be bothered.

How far Scolari's charges can go this season will most likely be decided by the extent to which he can purge the root cause of this unrest and reinvigorate a team which, at the start of the season, looked like they were ready to take on the world but now look like a shadow of their former selves.

LondonPass visitors can enjoy a day out at the spectacular Stamford Bridge, home of the Chelsea FC Stadium Tour, for free (a saving of £15 for adults and £9 for children).
