Chelsea FC sack Scolari

Published: Tuesday 10th of February 2009

Chelsea have parted ways with manager Luis Felipe Scolari only seven months into his tenure.

The club's board announced that they had sacked the Portuguese coach on Tuesday (February 9th) amid rumours of dressing room unrest and following a string of poor performances.

Chelsea currently sit seven points adrift from Premier League leaders Manchester United, who have played one game less, with the situation worsened by a dispirited display in the 0-0 home draw against Hull City at the weekend.

Scolari was brought in following the disappointment of last season's loss in the Champions League final against United, on the grounds that he could go one better than former incumbent Avram Grant.

However, fans have increasingly voiced their concerns at the team's performances, which have represented a notable shift from their early season form.

It remains to be seen who will step into the Stamford Bridge hotseat but early indications favour current Russian coach Guus Hiddink, although it has been rumoured that Grant could be in for a shock return to his former job.

LondonPass holders can enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the venue for all this drama – both on and off the pitch – for free, saving £15 for adults and £9 for children on the Chelsea FC Stadium Tour.
